Highlights from the Event

The Campus Bird Walk at the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM) was led by Ankit Malviya, beginning with a short introduction to birdwatching and the importance of observing nature within everyday spaces like campuses. Participants were introduced to simple identification tips such as noticing bird calls, behaviour, and distinctive field marks. The session highlighted how even urban campuses with trees, gardens, and open spaces can support a surprising diversity of birdlife.

As the walk progressed, the campus quickly came alive with bird activity. Familiar species such as Red-vented Bulbul, Jungle Babbler, Common Myna, and Indian Robin were seen moving through shrubs and pathways, while the melodious Oriental Magpie-Robin added a musical touch to the morning. Tree canopies hosted birds like Brown-headed Barbet, Coppersmith Barbet, Lesser Flameback, Rose-ringed Parakeet, and Rufous Treepie, while elegant doves including Eurasian Collared Dove and Laughing Dove were spotted around open areas. Bright flashes of colour came from Purple-rumped Sunbird and Brahminy Starling, while Black Drongo perched watchfully on wires. The highlight for many was encountering the stately Indian Peafowl and the elusive Grey Francolin, making the walk a delightful exploration of the birdlife thriving within the campus environment.
