About Sunder Nursery
Nestled in the heart of New Delhi, Sunder Nursery is a beautifully restored urban biodiversity park that seamlessly blends heritage, ecology, and landscape design. Spread across lush gardens, water channels, orchards, and wooded patches, the area supports a rich variety of flora—from native trees and flowering plants to carefully curated Mughal-era plantings. These diverse habitats attract insects, butterflies, and small mammals, creating a thriving green oasis amidst the city’s fast-paced environment. Historic monuments scattered across the landscape add to its charm, making every walk here both a cultural and ecological experience.
For birders, Sunder Nursery offers an accessible yet rewarding introduction to urban birdwatching. The mix of dense foliage, open lawns, and water bodies supports a variety of resident and migratory birds, from sunbirds and parakeets to woodpeckers and winter visitors. Early mornings are especially vibrant, with birdsong echoing through the gardens and activity unfolding at every turn. However, being an urban green space, it faces challenges such as human disturbance, noise, and habitat pressure from surrounding development. Continued conservation efforts, mindful visitor behaviour, and habitat management are essential to ensure that Sunder Nursery remains a thriving refuge for biodiversity and a peaceful escape for nature enthusiasts.

At Sunder Nursery in New Delhi, birdlife thrives in a vibrant mix of water bodies, wooded patches, and open gardens, creating a rich and dynamic urban birding experience. The nursery’s ponds attract waterbirds like Gadwall and Indian Spot-billed Ducks, while the elegant Red-naped Ibis and ever-watchful Red-wattled Lapwings add character to the landscape. Overhead, Black Kites soar effortlessly, and the sharp calls of White-throated Kingfishers echo near the water’s edge. The presence of large flocks of European Starlings adds a sense of movement and energy, especially as they sweep across the sky in synchrony.
