Bird Walk at Hadosiddapura Lake, Chikkakannalli, Bengaluru

About Hadosiddapura Lake

Nestled in the rapidly urbanizing landscape of Chikkakannalli in southeast Bengaluru, Hadosiddapura Lake is a vital freshwater wetland spanning approximately 22 hectares. Surrounded by a mosaic of open water, marshes, reed beds, grassy edges, and scattered tree cover, the lake supports a rich diversity of aquatic and terrestrial life. Native vegetation such as reeds, sedges, water-loving grasses, and riparian trees provides food, shelter, and nesting habitats for numerous species. The lake has emerged as an important urban biodiversity hotspot, attracting a wide variety of birds including resident waterfowl, herons, egrets, kingfishers, cormorants, and seasonal migratory visitors that arrive during the winter months.
For birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts, Hadosiddapura Lake offers rewarding opportunities to observe wildlife against the backdrop of Bengaluru’s expanding skyline. Early mornings often reveal flocks of ducks, waders probing the muddy shallows, and raptors soaring overhead, making the lake a popular destination for local birding communities. However, like many urban wetlands, the lake faces challenges from encroachment, untreated runoff, invasive vegetation, and increasing developmental pressures in the surrounding catchment. Ongoing conservation efforts, habitat restoration initiatives, community participation, and regular monitoring are essential to maintaining the ecological health of the lake and ensuring that it continues to serve as a refuge for wildlife and a green oasis for the city.
