Bird Walk at Barvi Forest Range, Thane Maharashtra

About Barvi Forest Range

The Barvi Forest Range in Thane district is a rich green landscape known for its dense forests, rolling terrain, and close association with the Barvi Dam and surrounding catchment areas. Located within the northern Western Ghats influence zone, the region supports a diverse range of flora and fauna, making it an important ecological corridor near the rapidly urbanizing Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The forests are dominated by moist deciduous vegetation and provide habitat for numerous species of birds, butterflies, reptiles, and small mammals, attracting nature enthusiasts, birdwatchers, and researchers throughout the year.
The landscape of the Barvi Forest Range becomes especially vibrant during and after the monsoon season, when streams, wetlands, and forest patches come alive with bird calls and seasonal biodiversity. The area plays a crucial role in groundwater recharge, climate regulation, and water security for nearby human settlements. Due to its proximity to urban centres, the forest range also serves as an important space for environmental education, conservation awareness, and responsible eco-tourism activities such as bird walks and nature trails.
